Inspiration

We are a team of students who genuinely believe mental health should be addressed more regularly. Stress is a difficult thing to overcome and in the coming years we anticipate going to university and having jobs and even the thought of that can be stressful, let alone the actual studying and work. We wanted to make something we can see ourselves using in the future. An app that can provide the resources needed to maintain a healthy mind while staying on top of things. That is why we came up with Real-Lax.

What it does

Real-Lax is an app which holds a variety of resources meant to encourage a healthy mental life style. Whether it be informing yourself on what steps to take, scheduling to manage your time, or even looking for a nearby professional, Real-Lax does it all. Real-Lax is meant to provide a user friendly UI that anyone can learn to use to ensure that getting the help you need to manage stress doesn't cause it. With Real-Lax, the support and resources you need are at your fingertips.

How we built it

A prototype of the anticipated app is provided via marvel. It aims to give an idea of what Real-Lax would look like until it can be brought to life. The UI was planned out and designed to seem calm and serene, utilizing the color blue heavily to achieve this. With simple labels and such it becomes an easy to use app and can easily be integrated into someones daily schedule. The website as well is made from scratch using HTML5 and CSS3 to provide better insight into Real-Lax and who we are as the co-founders of it.

Challenges we ran into

One of the largest challenges for this project was the designing of the site. Not only were we already limited on time, but none of us were acquainted with HTML5 or CSS3 prior to this project. This can be seen with some of the limitations of the site as it doesn't support mobile and falls apart when you leave full screen. In the future we look forward to learning more and improving the site as well as learning the skills needed to program and implement Real-Lax. Another difficulty was communication as typing something to chat is a lot more difficult to do than simply talking in person. Calls were out of question as we had some difficulties with microphones and as such almost all communication was done through messages. None the less out team overcame these challenges and learnt new skills to further Real-Lax with. We look forward to finding new challenges to solve in the future.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are most proud of the UI itself. Not only does it work well to prototype the idea but we strongly believe that it did justice to the idea we originally had and look forward to expanding upon it in the near future. With further work and effort we hope to learn enough to launch Real-Lax into the real world.

What we learned

Through this project we learnt a couple different skills. Marvel, and design in general, was something new to most of us and with the help of the workshop we feel we were able to make a great UI in the time constraints and lack of experience we had. Additionally, as mentioned earlier, none of us knew CSS or HTML prior to the hackathon and it became a new and intriguing challenge to learn how to make a website. Registering and hosting a domain was also a new concept to most of us but we feel we got the basics needed to run a run a website with a simple front end down. Overall we look forward to learning more about these skills and finding knew ways to apply them in future ventures such as Real-Lax.

What's next for Real-Lax

We hope to continue growing our skill sets and expanding our knowledge of different coding languages and skills so that we can bring Real-Lax to life. We feel we have a good idea and look forward to sharing it in the future and perhaps gaining support in our endeavors. We look forward to the future challenges this may bring and can't wait to get to solving them. Ironically working on Real-Lax may not give room to relax in the near future.
