Inspiration

In light of COVID-19, we saw real estate to be one of the most heavily impacted markets. With an increasing strain on rent in all parts of north america, we saw this opportunity to create this proof of concept web app. By leveraging cloud technologies, we wanted to come up with a better way of doing real estate research. By surveying users based on their priorities, we can develop more sophisticated suggestions for buyers.

What it does

By surveying users based on their priorities, we can develop more sophisticated suggestions for buyers. We decided to start with an existing real dataset for Kings county, and derived some additional sentiment based fields such as a walking score, transit score, and biking score for each property. This will allow buyers to have a much clearer view of what they are looking at.

How we built it

-Fleshed out the properties for Mongodb Atlas, a cloud based database. -Linked the database to an external scoring api, developing new fields for the Dataset. -Connected the UI to a cloud hosted MongoDb database backend. Created a website and an extensive form to get info from buyers. -Developing a model for the data and connecting the location data to the map API on Google.

Challenges we ran into

Developing links between the forms, MOngodb and Google Cloud API. Displaying data on the map without constraining the API and making it appear too buggy. Developing reasonably queries for BigQuery to display data that is relevant to the user.

Accomplishments that we are proud of

We were able to collect the desire requirement and info of the buyers, which was then connected to google cloud platform and maps to configure the possible safer and better facilitated houses.

What we learned

It was a total new level experience working with a new team and new people digitally, which was different from the hackathon happened so far. We enjoyed the exposure that we got to web development , GCP, and cloud database design.

What's next for Real Estate Investment Assist

As a proof of concept, this has commercial potential, especially when combined with several other datasets. Crime and health data can be taken in consideration and can be the subject of research for real estate investment.
