Inspiration

Have you ever looked into the fridge and asked yourself, 'What can I do with all this food?'? If so, then this is the app for you!

Inspired by the Netflix show "Best Leftovers Ever!", our website aims to minimise food waste and stop the need to go to the store in the pandemic by providing them with tasty useful recipes sorted by their difficulty.

What it does

You pick the ingredients you have available, and the app will tell you any recipes that use all of those ingredients! It also provides a link to the recipe website for more details. This app was designed with the difficulties of the pandemic in mind. Instead of going to the store and risk your health, you can try to do something with what you already have. It also addresses the genuine and grave problem of food waste. Instead of buying more, why not try using everything you have before.

How we built it

We designed a website using Js, React and Node.js, and make API calls to an online service, edamam. When pressing the submit button, we make a request containing all the ingredients checked from the list.

Challenges we ran into

We had troubles setting up a database connection on the client-side.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully set up a website using the basic functionality of React and made calls to that public API to also print those results. It was the first time for all of us working in React, but we managed to build something that helps people and the environment. (with very little sleep :) )

What we learned

New Technologies. New Opportunities. New Nutella Recipes. What Liquid Smoke Is.

What's next for Ready Recipes

Plans include the ability to sort the foods by their size and/or price and improve the search system. Also, showing what missing ingredients you would need to make a recipe.
