Inspiration

Readsey was born from something close to home. My wife is an avid reader and active member of several book clubs, and I often heard her frustrations with the limitations of a popular book‑focused social platform. Listening to her experiences opened my eyes to how much readers crave a space that truly understands them. I created Readsey to become that space, a warm, engaging social hub, where book lovers can connect, share their passions, and celebrate the stories that bring them together.

What it does

Readsey brings book lovers together in one vibrant, social space. It lets readers build personalized shelves, customize their profiles, and explore their reading identity. Users can connect with others who share their tastes, discover new books through community interaction, and even chat with an AI reading companion to dive deeper into stories, themes, and recommendations.

How we built it

Readsey was built using Base44, an AI‑powered development platform that generated the core foundation of the app, including the database, authentication system, and AI interaction tools. With that solid base in place, I expanded the platform by adding custom features, refining the user experience, and shaping Readsey into a fully realized social space for book lovers.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges I faced was managing AI hallucinations within the generated code. The initial output didn’t fully align with my vision for Readsey, so I had to refactor and refine the code extensively. Through iterative debugging and hands‑on adjustments, I shaped the platform into the reliable, intentional experience I set out to build.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of the achievements I’m most proud of is the ability to turn real user feedback into meaningful features. Listening to readers and adapting the platform to their needs has shaped Readsey into something truly valuable. Seeing my target audience not only enjoy the app but genuinely love the experience has been incredibly rewarding and reinforces the purpose behind the project.

What we learned

Throughout building Readsey, I learned the importance of prioritizing user experience above everything else. Instead of focusing on features that people don’t truly care about, I discovered the value of listening closely to real users and shaping the product around what genuinely improves their experience. That shift in mindset made the platform stronger, more intuitive, and more meaningful for the readers it serves.

What's next for Readsey

The next chapter for Readsey is all about scale. With a strong foundation and enthusiastic early users, the focus now is expanding the platform, reaching more readers, enhancing performance, and growing the community.
