Inspiration Many children struggle with pronunciation while learning to read, and not every child has access to a patient tutor or teacher at home. We wanted to create an accessible, voice-powered tool that helps kids practice pronunciation in a safe, fun, and interactive way — without the need for accounts or complex setups.

🚀 What it does ReadRight is a kid-friendly pronunciation practice app. It lets children upload an image or file with text, then reads it aloud using AI. The child repeats each word or phrase, and the app uses voice recognition to check accuracy. If the pronunciation is correct, the app gives positive encouragement. If it needs improvement, it politely asks the child to try again — creating a supportive and non-judgmental learning environment.

🔧 How we built it We built ReadRight using:

Speech-to-text APIs to recognize children’s spoken words

Text-to-speech tools to read uploaded content aloud

Image-to-text (OCR) to extract words from image files

A simple frontend (e.g., with Streamlit or React) for an intuitive and login-free experience

Voice feedback logic to detect correct pronunciation and give responses accordingly

🧱 Challenges we ran into Designing an interface that’s easy and fun for kids to use

Ensuring speech recognition could handle different accents and child voices

Balancing accurate feedback without being discouraging

Integrating OCR and voice features smoothly across devices

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of Built a fully working prototype with speech recognition and positive voice feedback

Created a no-login, privacy-friendly experience for young users

Made pronunciation practice fun and accessible through automation and encouragement

📚 What we learned How to integrate multiple AI tools (OCR, speech-to-text, TTS) in one seamless app

How to make feedback systems child-friendly and psychologically supportive

How to prioritize accessibility and ease-of-use in educational tools

🔮 What's next for ReadRight Add progress tracking so kids can see their improvement over time

Introduce gamified rewards for completing pronunciation milestones

Expand support for multiple languages and regional accents

Partner with educators to align content with early reading curriculums

Launch on mobile platforms for wider access
