Reading Bilingual

Inspiration

Many people take foreign language classes during their high school years and maybe in college. We learned grammatical structures, participles, verb types, etc., but we struggle because we lack the vocabulary we need to communicate efficiently.

What it does

Reading Bilingual allows you to learn as many words as you want from an article that interests you. It gives you options to expand certain parts of your vocabulary in an engaging way through guessing by context or peeking at the original English word beneath it. By visualizing and connecting the words mentally as you go through a story, you are able to create new access points in your mind to help you recall the words again in a different context.

What's next

We want to implement the Readability API as well as improve our translation abilities. Our end vision is to create this as a Chrome Extension so users can use Reading Bilingual on every webpage. Our final draft of the extension includes a simple interface and an enable/disable option.
