Problem Space:

• 7.8% of children between 3-17 years old experience some form of a learning disability.
• A growing gap between the advancement of digital educational tools and the quality of the user experience for students with learning disabilities
• An estimated 80% of learning disorders involve a reading impairment such as dyslexia.
• Unsupported learning disorders impact more than academic performance. It is associated with reduced mental health and unemployment in the long term.

Our project goal:

• Make reading more efficient and enjoyable for users with reading challenges, helping them acquire the same information in less time.

What’s our solution:

ReadAI is a chrome extension that estimates your reading time for a web page based on onboarding diagnostic test.

• no copy and paste or manual prompting required to generate text summaries.
• adjust depth of analysis with one button (1 min vs 5 min read)

Challenges we ran into:

• figuring out how to interact with the text on webpages and return the word count
• figuring out what tool to use to generate the text summaries
