Inspiration
Interacting with people my age online.
What it does
In the setting of a video call, if a user has a physical reaction (a facepalm, for example), a popular meme of Jonah Hill facepalming from the movie War Dogs pops onto the user's webcam broadcast. This meme and many others are implemented into the software.
How we built it
We used Google Gemini and PyCharm to house imported libraries with software that has facial and hand tracking, intending to deploy a Chrome extension as a user interface to our application.
Challenges we ran into
A lot of incorrect readings on different gestures (we had to be very precise when differentiating ), achieving the goal of having it as a universal software add-on is difficult, and having it operate outside of an IDE was a new challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Even though it was our first time working with tracking software, we were able to adapt and develop our vision in a timely manner
What we learned
We learned about the capabilities of unfamiliar Python libraries and dove headfirst into motion tracking software
What's next for Reaction Cam
Implementing more dynamic images for users, and making the transitions between webcam and reaction camera smoother
