Inspiration
In order to retrieve the required information for global real time map with markers, we, at first, used the code provided by Amazon Location Service and cloned the provided repository for location service via GitHub and started building our projects with other necessary APIs.
What it does
App features includes displaying weather, temperature, wind and its direction, sunrise, and sunset of a specified pointer on a map that also displays an option to show related news nearby same location.
How we built it
We used React.js, Tailwind CSS along with APIs and services mentioned below:
- AmazonLocationServiceAPI : To display real-time map on a website
- OpenWeatherAPI: To retrieve data related to the weather
- WorldAPI: To get the latest news of a clicked location
- ChatBot: To further assist users for their concerns
Challenges we ran into
- To find News API which provides real-time news based on the selected location of user.
- Design of our website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We never used AWS services before, and it was a proud moment using its Location Service.
- We also implemented real-time news service that user can view based on the selected locations all over the world.
- We trained our Chat Bot using the service of Chatbase which allows the Sailors and others to communicate with human-like intelligent friend in real time.
What we learned
- AWS Location Service Mastery: We had never delved into AWS services before, and this project became our initiation into the world of Amazon Web Services. Learning and successfully using AWS Location Service was a significant accomplishment for us.
- Real-time News Integration: We conquered the challenge of finding a News API that could provide real-time news based on user-selected locations. This not only expanded our technical knowledge but also enhanced the user experience by providing up-to-the-minute news updates.
- Chat Bot Implementation: We leveraged Chatbase to train our Chat Bot, transforming it into an intelligent companion for sailors and users. This real-time interaction capability was a game-changer, and we're proud to have made it happen.
- Domain name: We connected our domain www.wnewslocation.co with the Vercel hosting.
What's next for React Map Application with AWS Location Service
As we move forward, we have exciting plans for the project:
- Enhanced Features: Expand feature set, improve user interface, and add new functionalities.
- Global Reach: Integrate international data sources and languages for global accessibility.
- Community Engagement: Foster a collaborative community for user feedback and shared experiences.
