Inspiration
Job hunting today feels unnecessarily messy. Applications are scattered across emails, spreadsheets, job portals, and half-written notes. After a while, it becomes hard to remember where you applied, when to follow up, or even which version of your resume you used.
I personally felt this frustration during my own job search. Keeping track of everything started taking more effort than applying itself. Juggling here and there, remembering every detail to make our profile better. ReachOut was born out of this chaos - the need for a simple, focused tool that brings clarity to the job hunting process without overcomplicating it.
What it does
ReachOut helps users organize their entire job application journey in one place.
Users can track applications, update statuses, manage deadlines, add notes, and clearly see which applications may need follow-ups. On top of that, ReachOut also provides practical resources like Resume Writing Tips, Interview Preparation guidance, and Cover Letter Help - so users are not just tracking applications, but actively improving how they apply.
Instead of juggling multiple tools and tabs, everything stays organized in one clean dashboard.
How we built it
The frontend is built using React, with Tailwind CSS for a modern, responsive interface.
We used Supabase for authentication and database management, allowing secure and real-time storage of application data.
Follow-up indicators are handled programmatically to highlight applications that may need attention, helping users stay proactive rather than reactive.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was keeping the product simple while still useful. It was tempting to add more and more features, but I had to constantly evaluate whether each one genuinely improved the experience.
Managing inline editing, syncing UI state with the database, and maintaining smooth performance across different application states also required careful handling.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a complete, functional job application tracker from scratch
- Added follow-up intelligence instead of just static status tracking
- Integrated resume, interview, and cover letter guidance into the workflow
- Designed a clean and intuitive UI that reflects real-world job searching
- Created something genuinely useful based on personal experience
What we learned
This project reinforced the importance of building with the user in mind - prioritizing clarity over complexity.
Working with Supabase showed how much development speed improves with the right backend tools.
Most importantly, I learned that solving a real, personal problem often leads to the most meaningful products.
What's next for ReachOut
- Smart reminders and automated follow-up suggestions
- Application analytics and outcome insights
- Resume and cover letter version tracking
- Personalized recommendations to improve application success
ReachOut aims to become a practical companion that helps reduce the stress and uncertainty of job hunting.
