ReachBack
Inspiration
ReachBack was inspired by a common problem faced by creators, influencers, and businesses: losing years of audience growth due to account bans, hacks, suspensions, or platform issues. Many people spend significant time and effort building communities on social media, yet they do not truly own access to those audiences. I wanted to create a solution that helps users protect one of their most valuable digital assets—their followers and connections.
What It Does
ReachBack allows users to securely back up their followers and friends from supported social platforms. By maintaining a backup of audience data, users can preserve their communities and recover important connections if they ever lose access to their accounts.
How I Built It
I built ReachBack using a modern web stack focused on scalability and user experience.
Technologies Used
- Next.js
- React
- TypeScript
- Tailwind CSS
- Supabase
- PostgreSQL
- Supabase Authentication
- Supabase Storage
- Google Gemini API
- REST APIs
- Vercel
The frontend was built with Next.js and React to provide a fast and responsive user experience. Supabase handled authentication, database management, and storage. External APIs were integrated to retrieve and manage audience data, while Gemini API was used for AI-powered functionality within the platform.
Challenges Faced
One of the biggest challenges was designing a secure and reliable system for handling user data while maintaining privacy and trust. Integrating external platform APIs required careful handling of authentication flows, rate limits, and data consistency. Another challenge was creating a simple user experience for a process that involves multiple technical steps behind the scenes.
What I Learned
This project taught me valuable lessons about API integration, authentication systems, cloud-based databases, and building secure user-focused products. I also gained experience working with AI services and learned how to design solutions around real-world creator problems.
Impact
ReachBack helps creators reduce the risk associated with platform dependency. If an account is lost, the value of the audience should not disappear with it. The project empowers users to take ownership of their digital communities and safeguard years of hard work.
Future Plans
Future improvements include supporting additional social platforms, expanding backup capabilities, introducing automated backup schedules, and providing advanced audience management tools for creators and businesses.
In simple terms, ReachBack aims to ensure that users never lose access to the audience they worked so hard to build.
