There is no doubt that COVID-19 has wreaked havoc within all of our lives. Our team noticed that this has especially been the case for minority-owned small businesses. According to the US Chamber of Commerce, Minority-owned business owners are more likely than non-minority owners to report difficulty obtaining loans, express fears about permanently closing, and predict declining revenues in the coming year. To bring awareness to this issue, we wanted to create an opportunity for the public to support these businesses.
What it does
Reach allows users to view minority and women-owned businesses near them, bringing awareness to these struggling businesses.
How we built it
To code collaboratively, we utilized codesandbox.io. We used the React Framework to complete the website.
Challenges we ran into
We had difficulty incorporating the database with the search form and map.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of completing an entire website in 24 hours, backend and frontend. Also, we are proud of how we worked together.
What we learned
Most of the team did not know React, but we were able to learn and build the app entirely with React with the help of Mike, the sole person who knew React.
What's next for Reach
We would love to expand this project nationally so that anyone in the United States can view minority and women-owned businesses near them.
