Inspiration

Millions of people once had real skills — photography, crafts, building websites. Age, illness or simply the pace of modern software took those projects away from them. The problem is rarely ability. It's that software expects people to adapt to it.

What it does

ReAbility reverses that. The user answers four simple questions in plain language: what they used to do well, what they want to achieve, what makes things hard today, and what kind of support they wish for. No diagnoses, no medical data, no accounts.

From this, ReAbility generates two project plans side by side: the standard plan — and their plan, restructured around their needs (shorter steps, built-in breaks, simpler tools), with every single change explained respectfully in their own words. The user stays in control: every step can be accepted, edited or removed.

Then ReAbility executes the first real project step: it generates a personal, accessible digital photo exhibition from the user's own photos and memories — live, with font size, contrast and navigation depth derived from their answers. The result is a single self-contained HTML file the user owns and keeps.

How I used Codex

The entire MVP was built with Codex from one detailed specification (GPT-5.6 Sol, high reasoning), followed by fix iterations on Terra. At runtime, GPT-5.6 generates both the adapted plan and the exhibition. Codex wrote the frontend, the Node.js server, the accessibility baseline (min. 18px fonts, WCAG AA contrast, 48px touch targets, keyboard navigation), the crisis-language safety card, and the automated tests.

Privacy & safety by design

Photos never leave the browser. No accounts, no database, no medical questions. A deterministic safety card responds to crisis language — no AI judgment of the person. A permanent notice clarifies: ReAbility is not therapy and not a medical product.

What's next

The same principle — adapt the project to the person — extends to websites, learning, crafts and everyday projects, on an offline-first, local platform where users choose their AI agents per task.

About me

I'm a maintenance technician at a fulfillment center, self-taught, building AI infrastructure at home. ReAbility was built solo in three days. That's the point: barriers can come down.
