Inspiration

♻️ Its not uncommon for a person to look at all the different colored trash bins and wonder how they are going to find the right one for the item they with to dispose of. It cab be a challenging decision for a child or the older generations who were not introduced to the system until a later age.

🌿We decided to create a waste categorization webpage to make this system work smoothly and help the people who struggle with this problem in their daily lives.

What it does

🐉 After scrolling down on our webpage, users can hold an intem infornt of the camera to be analyzed and ctegorized

🌼Then a text in the screen will indicate the material of the item and if it is recyclable, a hazard or compost

How we built it

🌞 To build the algorithm in charge of clasifying the items we used PyTorch trained with data sets from Hugging Face.

🌵For the implementation of computer vision into the webpage we used OpenCv and Flask

🐊 Front-end, which features an intuitive user interface, uses HTML and CSS

Challenges we ran into

🦀Implementing the video feed into the webpage was a challenging experience

🍁Training the algorithms and finding datasets

Accomplishments that we're proud of

🐡 It was such an achievement to be able to train a model succesfully! Definitely something we all want to keep working on and learning

🐿Learning specific web design aplications, focused on the interface and user experince was a fun task to complete and we are very proud of the end result

🐖 We are proud of being bold enough to try something new in this hackathon

What we learned

🧃How to use PyTorch

🪱How to use Flask

🕷 How to use OpenCv

🐞Teamwork!

What's next for Re-vision

🐥We want to create an app version for easy everyday use

🐦‍⬛Seek partnerships with local businesses and the government to integrate this system into their waste disposal

🐛We will continue to better our algorithm so that it always works smoothly
