⚠️ This is a prototype and design concept built during the hackathon.
Inspiration
I have books at home I will never read again. I did not want to just throw them away or donate to Goodwill. I wanted to give them to someone who really needs them - a student, a neighbor, anyone. That is how re:read started.
What it does
re:read is an app where you scan a book barcode and list it for free. People nearby can find it on a map and request it. Local pickup is free. If they live far away, they pay only for shipping.
One of the best feature is Book Journey - every time a book moves to a new person, it adds to the story. You can see everyone who read it before you. The book carries its history with it.
Who it is for
- Students - find textbooks and books nearby for free
- Graduates - give away books sitting in boxes at home
- Neighbors - share books with people around you
How I built it
- Used Claude by Anthropic as my main AI assistant - helped me think through the idea, user flow, pitch, and technical decisions
- Designed the app prototype using v0 by Vercel
Challenges
Building a complete app idea in one day was hard. I had to think about how shipping works, how to build trust between strangers, and how to make giving feel special - not just like throwing something away.
