Inspiration: Teaching kids that innovation means inventing "new" things, adding to our waste problem. RE: Maker challenges this by showing that true innovation is fixing what we already have.
What it does: RE: Maker turns sustainability into a real engineering challenge for kids (grades 3-5). They must diagnose broken toys, apply the correct materials, and track the CO2 emissions saved in real-time.
How it was built: Built using HTML5, Tailwind CSS, and JavaScript. I used custom CSS for the pastel aesthetic and custom cursor, with LLMs assisting in accelerating the development of the functional engineering logic.
Accomplishments: I developed a 3-screen flow in a hackathon setting that provides immediate, educational reinforcement via confetti and tangible CO2 savings data.
What we learned I learned to use LLMs as pair programmers to rapidly iterate on complex JS logic and CSS, and how crucial immediate visual feedback is for educational user experience.
