Inspiration.

Two years ago, I watched plastic pile up in my building's dumpster and asked: why do 90% of people say they'll recycle but only 9% do? The answer isn't technology — it's behavior and traceability. So I built this habit-forming app (Re-bin)

What it does

The main two problem it solves is that since recycling has no feedback loop (you never learn what your waste became) and upcycled goods have no trust layer (nothing proves the material was rescued, or that a buyer gets what was listed). Re-bin makes both legible: an auditable three-stage collection trail, and a payment hold released by a physical parcel check.

How we built it

It was built purely through a AI-Native approach, using Gemini for ideation, Canva for wireframing and desgin, finally bolt and base 44 to build out the complete app. It took me over 500$ worth of total inference costs across all the LLMs and AI apps.

Challenges we ran into

Running out of tokens was the norm, I've been borrowing from friends and family to move things ahead.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Getting the developer guidelines for the App store and Play store is the biggest flex I have for now.

What we learned

There are a lot of tools available for the ones who really want to make a difference and even AI has limitations, but those who persevere are able to make the most of the situation given.

What's next for Re-bin

I want to build a recycling point where I take the unwanted plastic and turn it into fuel. This fuel will be used to run our operations and enable me to mobilize resources in order to cater our users on the store and pick up sections.
