Inspiration
This project, "RE:AWAKENING," is a short mockumentary trailer exploring the concept of super-powered humans suddenly emerging in our modern world. Our inspiration was drawn from the desire to present extraordinary events within a highly realistic, found-footage news format, blurring the line between fantasy and reality. We wanted the audience to question, "What if this was real?"
What it does
"RE:AWAKENING" is a narrative-driven film that uses the mockumentary genre to showcase the potential of AI in cinematic storytelling. It presents a chilling and plausible scenario of existential fear and wonder, delivered through the familiar structure of breaking news and eyewitness accounts.
How we built it
The entire visual aspect of this film was generated using advanced AI video models, specifically Sora 2 and Wan 2.2. This project was a dedicated effort to push the boundaries of current text-to-video capabilities:
- Scene Generation: Used specific, detailed prompts to generate realistic, news-style footage of collapses, crowded streets, and military presence.
- Aesthetic & Style: Carefully controlled the prompt language to maintain a consistent high-fidelity, gritty, and handheld mockumentary aesthetic across all clips.
- Integration: The generated clips were then meticulously edited and composited in post-production with human-created sound design, voiceovers, and motion graphics to tell a cohesive story.
Challenges we ran into
The primary challenge was maintaining temporal consistency and realistic camera movement across different AI-generated segments while ensuring the narrative flow remained seamless. Achieving specific, repeatable actions across multiple generated shots proved highly difficult.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to create a complex, genre-specific, and emotionally resonant narrative entirely using text-to-video AI. The successful fusion of AI-generated visuals with human-driven conceptualization, editing rhythm, and professional sound design proves that compelling, story-driven cinema is possible at this new intersection of technology and art.
What we learned
We learned the importance of prompt engineering for camera angles, lighting, and consistency to achieve the final, cinematic look required for the mockumentary style. This project demonstrates that AI is a powerful tool for visual generation, but it requires substantial human direction and post-production effort to shape a compelling, narrative-driven film.
What's next for RE:AWAKENING
We plan to develop a full-length short film or series based on this concept, further refining the use of AI tools to explore complex character narratives within the "RE:AWAKENING" universe.
