Inspiration
Re-Art was inspired by outfit planner apps, knolling, and found object art. We first thought about the idea of visually organizing items to help people track what they own. From there, we realized we could use the same concept for recycling instead of possessions, collecting the recycled items into a digital art pieces
What it does
Re-Art lets users create digital artworks by accumulating the number of recycled item over time, transforming recycling into a fun, game-like experience instead of a tedious task
How we built it
We built a website prototype where users can take photos of items that they are going to recycle and turn them into a digital mosaic
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was verification. There is difficulty in confirming if the items were actually recycled even if the user takes a photo. To solve this, our future vision is to integrate Re-art with existing BCRS machines to remove the need for photos to be done by the users themselves.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to turn recycling into a fun experience for users instead of a tedious task.
What we learned
We learned that the main obstacle for people to recycle is really the inconvenience, rather than the lack of awareness.
What's next for Re-Art
We planned to work with BCRS machines for users to log in to their account on this website to automatically keep track of the cans recycled, while also tracking the amount of 10cents accumulated in a E-wallet. There will also be a social features where you can invite friends to build a digital artworks together and a community counter of the total number of items recycled.
