Inspiration

Our inspiration behind this project was that water pollution is killing people through unsanitized consumption.

What it does

Our RC Boat product will be able to autonomously collect trash in the water through live camera analysis of the area.

How we built it

We compiled over 100 images of trash and annotated each one to create an accurate dataset for our machine to learn from. Then if the boat detects trash in front of it, we developed a sequence of movements the boat will carry out in order to collect it.

Challenges we ran into

With neither of us having a background in machine learning, learning the tools and techniques required to execute the program was very challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of coming up with a solution to a worldwide problem, finding a method to make our solution into a reality, and starting on the path towards our finished solution.

What we learned

We learned about Machine Learning, prominent problems in our world today, and that, even at a young age, we can make an impact.

What's next for RC Boat to Combat Aquatic Trash

Implementing the RC product in communities in need and further developing the code used to make up the product.
