Inspiration

It all began with a news article that introduced us to the concept of hydroponics. Witnessing the rapid urbanization, water scarcity, land degradation, and the decline in green areas due to space constraints in urban living, we were motivated to bring advancements to this field. We aimed to merge technology and nature, offering innovative solutions for cultivating green spaces without relying on traditional soil-based methods.

What it does

Smart Gardeners is a hydroponics project that empowers individuals to cultivate a green oasis, even in urban landscapes. Our hydroponic kits provide all the necessary components for users to grow a diverse range of herbs, vegetables, or flowers right at home. The main feature of our project is the dedicated web portal and personalized app designed to assist users in their hydroponic journey. This includes timely notifications for proper plant nurturing, an interactive chatbot for instant assistance, and much more.

How we built it

The web portal is designed with a focus on accessibility and user-friendliness, providing comprehensive knowledge about hydroponics. Additionally, we implemented a Gardener (Chatbot) to assist with any issues related to the kit. The app is well-designed to help users purchase products and keep track of their plants. We carefully curated the hydroponic gardening kit, including all necessary components to ensure a successful gardening experience. Our team consists of 2 full-stack developers and 2 Flutter developers, so we pooled all our expertise to create an application that merges technology and nature seamlessly.

Challenges we ran into

The first challenge we encountered was organizing the data for the hydroponics project as it was not readily available in an organized manner. Secondly, balancing the complexity of these features with a user-friendly interface required meticulous planning and iterative development. While we faced several more challenges along the way, we conquered them all and successfully completed the project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have created a comprehensive solution that promotes sustainable agriculture and empowers individuals to grow their own fresh produce at home. The Smart Gardeners project not only addresses the challenges of urban living but also provides a platform for learning and engagement in hydroponic gardening. Essentially, we aimed to catalyze sustainable development by embracing the concept of 'Viksit Bharat'.

What we learned

Through the development of Smart Gardeners, we deepened our understanding of hydroponics and its benefits, including water efficiency, faster plant growth, space optimization, and nutrient precision. We also learned valuable lessons in teamwork, problem-solving, and the importance of user-centric design. On the technical side, we learned how to fine-tune a model, efficiently use the language chain, work with several frameworks like React, implement proper state management, and much more.

What's next for Smart Gardeners

In the future, we plan to expand the range of seeds and plants available in the hydroponic kits, providing users with even more options for their gardening endeavors. We also aim to enhance the web portal with additional features based on user feedback, ensuring an ever-improving experience for Smart Gardeners. Hydroponics is the future, so we will aim to make this future better and revolutionize the traditional gardening method.
