Inspiration
It is often hard to find information for dorms online, so our inspiration came from the want to provide students with a location to read and write reviews of certain dorms at their colleges. We wanted to provide students with a way to access these reviews and write some for their own dorms.
What it does
The website provides a way for students to search up their college and dorm and read reviews of that dorm from other students. You can also create an account and post reviews of dorms yourself.
How we built it
We created the website using ReactJS and are storing the rating data in a MongoDB database.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges we ran into include connecting up the different views of the website in order to move information around. And also connecting the database up to the front end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to finish our website and have a completely working rating and review system.
What we learned
We learned more about using React and creating a cohesive app with different pages and views with a backend database.
What's next for RateMyDorms
The next thing for RateMyDorms is to take feedback from judges and add to the website. Some features that we wanted to add include images of the dorm rooms, layouts of buildings, and locations of dorms on campus.
