Inspiration
Everyone has wondered how their voice sounds to other people. We wanted to turn that curiosity into a fun, social experience: an app where you record your voice, get instant AI-powered feedback, and see how you stack up against the world.
What it does
Rate My Voice lets users record short voice clips and receive an instant AI score with detailed feedback on tone, clarity, warmth and charisma. Users can climb a global leaderboard, track their progress over time, and unlock premium insights (deeper analysis, unlimited recordings, and voice-improvement tips) through a subscription managed entirely with RevenueCat.
How we built it
- Mobile app built with SwiftUI for iOS
- AI voice analysis pipeline that scores recordings on multiple dimensions
- RevenueCat for subscriptions, paywalls and entitlements — including remote paywalls so we can iterate on pricing without shipping updates
- Supabase for backend, auth and leaderboards
- PostHog for product analytics and funnel tracking
Challenges we ran into
Designing a scoring system that feels fair and fun at the same time was harder than expected. We also spent a lot of time tuning the paywall placement so it feels natural instead of pushy — RevenueCat's A/B-friendly paywall tooling helped a lot here.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Shipping a complete record → analyze → score → leaderboard loop with a working subscription funnel, and getting our first paying subscribers during the hackathon.
What we learned
Monetization is a design problem, not just a billing problem. Watching real funnel data (paywall seen → trial start → conversion) taught us more in a week than months of guessing.
What's next for Rate My Voice
Android release, social sharing of voice cards, themed challenges (movie-trailer voice, podcast voice), and RevenueCat Experiments to optimize pricing.
