Inspiration

We all crave improvement and greater value in all aspects of life. Health related fads and lifestyle spinoffs flood our day to day existence focusing on pounds lost and fitting into the body image box of the outside world. Rate My Plate emphasizes the nutritional value of our food consumption, with simple suggestions for a healthier tomorrow by empowering the user with information about their plate.

What it does

Input: Enter what you are eating with as much detail as you want to provide. Output: Rate My Plate will return:

• Overall Nutrition Letter Grade: an letter grade to show the overall nutritional quality of the food you ate
• Detailed Nutritional Quality Breakdown: how the letter score was derived
• Suggestions to Improve your Diet: Ideas to improve your diet by exchanging, including or skipping various ingredients in your foods.
• NutriBot: food enthusiasts can use our chat feature, to get more ideas or ask questions you may have.
• Artistic Image Representation: A picture generated by using the list of food items provided. This usually coincides with all responses being generated and it's fun to see the surprising results!

How we built it

We used PartyRock, an Amazon Bedrock playground. The interface allowed us to easily set up the input/output widgets and explore using several LLM foundational models to generate results.

Challenges we ran into

The 2 main challenges were model selection & prompt engineering. There are several foundational models available for use. We had to take some time to familiarize with the capacity & challenges of each model to select the right one. Additional, we had to make sure the the prompt given was as precise as possible so it generates the correct results every time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are an married couple. She is a Data Scientist and he is in Finance. This no code AWS playground gave us an opportunity to collaborate and build something together. The platform democratizes AI based productization and without the technical know-how being a barrier we were able to communicate and engage in meaningful, creative problem solving. We look forward to future collaborations where we can bring our unique perspectives and skills to solve important issues!

We learned about the power of Bedrock, introduction to foundational models and basics of prompt engineer.

What's next for Rate My Plate

We are excited to share this with our friends/family to get their input on ease of use and any glitches in the answers provided. Based on their feedback, we will work on re-optimizing the results and layout.
