Inspiration
College can be a new experience for many people, and can be unsafe if you don't know where you're walking into.
What it does
By allowing users to rate the safety of organizations and their parties, users can determine whether or not they should go to future parties based on real user reviews.
How we built it
We used Flutter as our primary development kit and Android Studio to emulate our app, as they allowed for easy cross platform development of mobile applications. We used VSCode and LiveShare to collaborate with each other. Some of our code is based off of Flutter documentation, Fireship.io, and Shakleen Ishfar's Medium article.
Challenges we ran into
Since none of us had much experience in mobile development, it was a challenge to learn a new language as well as the process of refining the user experience in order to make the app as seamless and friendly as possible.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Overall even building an app from scratch is an accomplishment that we're proud of as it is an entirely new experience for us. More specifically, getting the bottom navigation bar and the navigation from the organization list to the specific pages to work was most rewarding.
What we learned
We learned a lot about mobile development (Flutter/Dart & Android Studio) and how apps are built in such environment as it is rather different from what we've learned previously.
What's next for Rate My Party
For the future, we hope to further implement the profile tab so that users have more options on security and how the app looks. We also hope to add a forum so that partygoers can find others to go somewhere with them (and possibly make new friends!).
