Inspiration
Dining hall food is a hit or a miss, so we wanted to make a website that could tell students the ratings for each food item.
What it does
The website is a demo that acts as a proof of concept. The plan we had in mind includes a home page with a dropdown menu displaying different universities whose dining halls we can check. Within these university pages, we have pages with each dining hall and its menu items followed by the student-written ratings.
How we built it
We built our website demo using Figma and adapted what we could into actual HTML, CSS, and Javascript code.
Challenges we ran into
Originally, we wanted to create a working model but lacked the skills and time to effectively learn to implement a database and web scraping for school menu items.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're honestly proud that we were able to create the foundations for a solid idea.
What we learned
We learned to use Python for web scraping and gained much experience in front-end development.
What's next for Rate my Dining
We want to implement a database and automated web scraping so that menu items are shown as they are released and can pull user reviews and ratings from the database as they come up.
