Inspiration
The “Maker Movement” has led to the widespread use of the low-cost ($35) Raspberry Pi computer in education and home automation projects yet it still has not been commonly adopted for industrial automation. Because of its unique capabilities, the Raspberry Pi computer could connect legacy manufacturing equipment to GE's Predix platform.
What it does
Monitors machine downtime, improves Overall Equipment Effectiveness, and connects legacy manufacturing equipment to GE's Predix platform.
How I built it
Data Acquisition via an MT Connect Adapter and the Raspberry Pi Computer, Data Processing via the MTConnect Standard and the Python programming language, and then Data Visualization through a web app. Get the data, sort the data, and then visualize Manufacturing Intelligence derived from the data.
Challenges I ran into
Legacy manufacturing equipment lacks the ability to communicate data in a standardized format.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Winning the MTConnect Student Challenge. https://www.imts.com/show/newsletter/insider/article-details.cfm?articleid=219
