Inspiration: Rap, a universal tool
Growing up in one of the poorest cities in Germany, I searched for a form of art that best represented what I felt, and what I experienced. I see it as a form of poetry, communicating complicated topics in a form that connects people from different backgrounds, cultures and levels of education. It's also a form of raising issues on the level of society or politics - without facing repression. A form of democratisation of society. Unfortunately, a lot of people miss talent in music creation (like me, although I started to write lyrics at the age of 6). I see the use of LLMs as a chance to democratise the process of creating music even more.
What it does: Crafting lyrics, cover, video script, marketing concept
I wanted a solution that included all levels of music creation. Not in the hands of big corporations, but everyone who tries it. Therefore I created a solution which not only creates the lyrics but also the album art (old-school CD cover), a detailed video script (including example images) and a full marketing concept.
How I built it: PartyRock
As required in the rules I created the whole app in PartyRock. Using these steps:
- Planning what is needed to create a song and distribute it
- Laying out the structure in PartyRock, finding a good UI
- Filling out the prompt for every step
- Testing, and iterating on the prompts (a lot of work)
- Testing different AI models
Challenges: perfect prompt, sources, limits of AI models & PartyRock
The biggest challenge was to find the right way to prompt and keep almost consistent results. Another challenge was that I couldn't include other sources due to the limits of PartyRock. Creating the UI requires different thinking than usual - no buttons, no dropdowns,... and a lot of uncertainty about what the users write or the LLMs return.
Accomplishments: inspiring lyrics, flexible UI, full circle
I think the generated lyrics are a really good source of inspiration. I tried to integrate as many concepts as possible and make it generate a clear storyline. I also like how I created a UI that does not require a lot of modification from the user (as it's supposed to be a source of inspiration). I also think it's great to have the full circle (from lyrics to marketing) - as it gives a hint on what to do.
Learned: Prompts, prompts, prompts
I learned a lot about creating prompts and nesting prompts. It's fascinating how different the results between the different AI models are. And how different (and for some more difficult) is to instruct them. PartyRock gives an easy-to-use interface to try out different models and concepts. I'm looking forward to even more improvements in the future!
What's next for RapMuse
I'd like to develop a standalone app which resembles the steps but goes as far as execution (as in creating the song and publishing it).
