Inspiration
Finding a reliable technician for home repairs is often frustrating. Many people struggle to find skilled professionals quickly, while technicians face challenges in reaching customers and managing service requests efficiently. We wanted to create a platform that simplifies this process by connecting customers and technicians through a single, easy-to-use application.
What it does
RapidFix is a smart service-booking platform that allows customers to find and book technicians for various home services. Customers can create accounts, browse services, and make bookings, while technicians can manage requests and provide timely assistance. The platform also sends notifications and updates to keep users informed throughout the service process.
How we built it
We developed RapidFix using a modern cloud-based architecture. The frontend was built with Next.js to provide a responsive and user-friendly experience. The backend leverages AWS Lambda and API Gateway for scalable serverless APIs. User authentication is handled using Amazon Cognito, ensuring secure signup, login, and password recovery. Notifications are delivered through Amazon SNS, while DynamoDB is used for data storage. AWS Amplify, S3, and CloudFront help with deployment, hosting, and content delivery.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was integrating multiple AWS services and ensuring smooth communication between the frontend and backend components. Setting up authentication flows, API integrations, and notification services required careful configuration and testing. Managing collaboration within the team and merging different modules into a single working application was also a valuable learning experience. Accomplishments that we're proud of Successfully implemented secure user authentication using Amazon Cognito. Built a serverless backend using AWS Lambda and API Gateway. Integrated real-time notifications using Amazon SNS. Created a scalable architecture capable of supporting future enhancements. Collaborated effectively as a team to deliver a functional end-to-end solution.
What we learned
Through this project, we gained hands-on experience with cloud-native development, serverless architectures, authentication systems, API integration, and team-based software development. We also learned how to design scalable solutions using AWS services and how to troubleshoot integration challenges effectively.
What's next for RapidFix
In the future, we plan to add real-time technician tracking, AI-powered technician recommendations, service ratings and reviews, in-app chat functionality, secure online payments, and advanced analytics to improve both customer and technician experiences.
