Inspiration

Today, almost every essential service has gone digital. We use ride-hailing apps for transportation, food delivery platforms for meals, and e-commerce websites for shopping. Yet when a water pipe bursts, a fan stops working, or an electrician is urgently needed, most people still rely on personal contacts, neighborhood recommendations, or pure luck to find help.

At the same time, thousands of skilled electricians, plumbers, mechanics, and repair professionals struggle to gain visibility and secure consistent opportunities despite having years of experience. Many depend entirely on word-of-mouth referrals and lack a trusted digital identity that showcases their skills and reputation.

We saw an opportunity to bridge this gap. RapidFix was created to connect customers with trusted local service professionals while empowering skilled workers with direct access to opportunities, transparent reputation building, and a platform designed around trust and accessibility.

What it does

RapidFix is a real-time local services platform that connects customers with verified skilled professionals for home repairs and maintenance needs.

Customers can raise service requests by describing their problem, attaching images or videos, and selecting the required service category. The platform then matches the request with nearby workers based on their profession and preferred service locations.

To build trust and transparency, RapidFix includes:

  • Multi-level worker verification
  • Government document review and approval
  • Ratings and review systems
  • Complaint and dispute resolution workflows
  • Worker trust badges and reputation tiers
  • Real-time job status tracking
  • Automated email notifications throughout the service lifecycle

Beyond service requests, RapidFix also features a community platform where customers and workers can share advice, discuss repair-related topics, and help each other solve common problems.

For minor issues, an AI-powered assistant provides quick troubleshooting guidance before users decide whether professional assistance is required.

How we built it

We built RapidFix using a modern full-stack architecture focused on scalability, reliability, and real-time communication.

Frontend

  • React + TypeScript
  • Vite
  • Tailwind CSS
  • GSAP animations
  • Axios
  • React Router

Backend

  • Node.js
  • Express.js
  • MongoDB
  • Mongoose ODM
  • Socket.io for real-time updates

Authentication & Security

  • Firebase Authentication
  • JWT-based authorization
  • Email verification workflows

Media & Communication

  • Cloudinary for media storage
  • Nodemailer for transactional emails

AI Integration

  • Gemini 2.5 Flash for repair diagnostics and troubleshooting assistance

The platform supports dedicated customer, worker, and administrator workflows, each designed to address different aspects of the service ecosystem.

Challenges we ran into

Building RapidFix required solving several real-world workflow challenges.

One of the biggest challenges was designing a fair worker assignment process. We needed a system that could intelligently match service requests with workers based on profession and preferred service areas while keeping the experience simple for both sides.

Another challenge was creating trust mechanisms. Since customers are inviting workers into their homes, verification, ratings, complaints, dispute handling, and reputation systems became critical components rather than optional features.

Implementing real-time status updates, automated notifications, and maintaining consistency across customer, worker, and admin dashboards also required careful planning and testing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of building a complete service ecosystem rather than just a service-booking application.

Some of our key accomplishments include:

  • Real-time location-based worker matching
  • Multi-level worker trust and verification system
  • End-to-end service lifecycle management
  • Community-driven knowledge sharing platform
  • AI-assisted repair diagnostics
  • Complaint and dispute resolution workflows
  • Role-based dashboards for customers, workers, and administrators
  • Automated communication and notification system

Most importantly, we created a platform that benefits both customers and skilled workers.

What we learned

Through RapidFix, we learned that solving real-world problems requires much more than building features.

We gained valuable experience in:

  • Designing scalable backend architectures
  • Building real-time systems with Socket.io
  • Managing complex workflow states
  • Implementing authentication and authorization securely
  • Creating trust and reputation systems
  • Designing products that balance the needs of multiple user groups

We also learned the importance of focusing on user trust, transparency, and accessibility when building platforms that connect people.

What's next for RapidFix

Our vision is to evolve RapidFix into the go-to platform for local repair and maintenance services.

Future plans include:

  • Production-grade phone verification
  • Live worker location tracking
  • In-app chat and calling
  • AI-powered issue classification and routing
  • Smart worker recommendation engine
  • Mobile applications for Android and iOS
  • Regional language support
  • Digital payments and invoicing
  • Predictive maintenance recommendations
  • Expansion into additional service categories

We believe RapidFix can help create a more connected, trustworthy, and opportunity-driven ecosystem for local service professionals and customers alike.
