Inspiration
The current COVID-19 outbreak has affected people and companies all around the world, and we are no exception. SwissDeCode is a startup based in Lausanne, Switzerland that delivers rapid DNA testing solutions for the food industry, helping farmers and food manufacturers to grow and produce food that is safe to eat. Recognizing the strong connection between the Food Industry and Humans, which has become even more evident during the past few months, we decided to take matters into our own hands.
What it does
Our 30 minute rapid, onsite DNA test, is used in existing lab equipment to detect Coronavirus.
How we built it
We have used our knowledge and experience in the detection of viruses and pathogens in plants and food, to create a new test for Coronavirus.
Challenges we ran into
The need to deliver the final product within a very short period of time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have managed to create a test without the need for RNA extraction, which reduces time and cost, and avoids current shortage of RNA extraction kits.
What we learned
Our technology can be successfully applied in the medical field.
What's next for Rapid COVID-19 Testing
We are looking for partners to validate and implement our initial solution in their laboratories, to save time, money and avoid current lab supplies shortages. We are also looking for funding to develop a second-generation, point of care solution.
