Inspiration
On 30 January 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global public health emergency over the outbreak of the new coronavirus, called the 2019 novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), originated in Wuhan City, China. WHO officially named the disease as the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and human-to-human transmissions were confirmed by WHO and by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the United States. Till today there are more than 1.4 Million confirmed cases and ~ 83 thousand deaths have been reported by corona. It’s a global threat and requires urgent solutions to prevent the outbreak. The major problem with such huge corona/ COVID-19 spread is its highly infectious nature and inadequate detection systems that makes portable, rapid diagnosis is a major need of hour to identify COVID infected individuals so that they could be treated and further infection can be prevented.
This work is an attempt to create a solution for Rapid Detection, Diagnosis and Disinfection of Corona Viruses as the world moves towards new normal way of living the life.
What it does
The Proposed solution is an integrated approach for quick detection (IR Imaging) of Corona Virus at any place, immediately confirming its presence in any patient (Isolating the patient based on body temperature (IR Temp measurement) and confirming the presence or absence through a quick diagnostic test (CovE2 Sens) and then taking the precautionary measure to disinfect the place or any place for that matter using a proven safe method (FAR-UVC) .
How I built it
We research and pondered upon various ideas related to instant detection and safe disinfection processes and came up with many scientific literature. Then we envisaged a device with can be made multi functional in terms of detecting the Corona virus, measuring body temp and also act as small handheld device for disinfection. For Diagnosis part we already have one technology developed for Rapid testing of Corona (Developed and patented by one of the Team Member - Dr Preeti Jooshi)
Challenges I ran into
Quite a challenge to find out IR image repository exist in the world or not. Only if such a library exist as Big Data then we can implement the idea of real time We could find one and got relieved of the fact that what we are thinking is theoretically possible and we are hope that corona being a global issue such library soon be available for fingerprinting needs.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Although, most of the team members are not from core microbiology field but working together we came up with a credible idea and our knowledge about management of corona got enhanced. we feel that with proposed solution we can help global citizens to adopt to the new Normal !
What I learned
We learned about various scientific methods of detecting Bacteria n Viruses as well as proven and Safe methods for disinfection. Also we learned to work in group with Diverse background and power of collaboration
What's next for Rapid 3D - Detecting The Undetectable
Giving the Idea a real shape and working closely with Fast sense team in customizing CoVE2 Sens device to detect Corona virus in sewage that can help authorities in identifying any new hotspot being devolved.
