Inspiration
We thought it might be a fun way to learn more about website design and styling, and there are plenty of people who need good Instagram captions (or at least a laugh) so we decided to do this.
What it does
Generates a rap lyric from a list at random, and there is a 1 in 10 chance per click for someone to get a link to a fun surprise.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into
We were having trouble with getting a favicon to work on the site, we had to play around with that and read up a bit in trying to get it to work. We also had to play around with the CSS for a while to get it to look how we were envisioning, which helped us familiarize ourselves more.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to do this by ourselves and had fun and learned in the process. It was nice to include all the elements we were thinking of.
What we learned
We learned how to style with CSS better and learn more about the various options that you can have for style, and were able to incorporate all of our different ideas for background, favicon, colors, and structure, etc.
What's next for Rap Caption Generator
We were looking into Instagram's API to see if there was a way we could enable people to use our captions and post directly from our site, but unfortunately, Instagram only allows this for business accounts and the vast majority of people use personal accounts. If Instagram's API changes, this would be a really fun feature. It might be fun to add different categories for lyrics and have a few different arrays depending on what theme of lyric the user wanted.
