Inspiration
If we're being completely honest, we thought, what would be the dumbest way we could use AI to flex on robots and prove how superior we are? Enter Grilling.ai. We thought it would be hilarious to use AI for all the wrong and most useless reasons. And guess what? That’s exactly what we did.
What It Does
You ever wondered who would win a rap battle between a plate and a bowl? Me either, but Grilling.ai has the answer. Input it 2 objects and it will throw a 12-bar brainrot freestyle by each object with visuals and voiceover on who is better than the other. You can have an M&M rapping like Enimem about how he's more skibidi toilet than a Twix bar, the possibilities are literally infinite (until we ran out of openai credits). We thought having an open mic session with your favorite objects wasn't enough, so we added Roast Session, add a selfie of yourself (at your own discretion) and get ready to get absolutely demolished by our distingued AI that runs on pure hate, we don't even pay for it he (yes the ai has pronouns) simply does the roasting for fun to the game.
How We Built It
- Frontend: Built using Next.js and styled with Chakra UI, because if you're going to get roasted at least our frontend should be pretty..
- Backend: We integrated OpenAI and AWS and used up almost all of their features. We have Text-to-speech, Dall-e, Image integration, and Text Integration.
- Deployment: Hosted on Vercel.
- Design Philosophy: If aliens wanted to invade us, what would be a reason for them to determine we are not intelligent enough yet and turnaround?
Challenges We Ran Into
- AI vs. Humor: Making the AI brainrotted was harder than expected. It kept trying to be smart and helpful, which was a big no-no for this app.
- Overcommitting to the Joke: The amount of AI and AWS credits we're pouring into this should genuinely be punishable by law, we're both also in finals and we still thought I'd be a great idea to make a brainrot app for the fun of the game.
- Debugging with a Straight Face: It’s tough to troubleshoot when the app is calling your skills “mid-tier at best.”
Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of
- Successfully creating an app that will help the brainrot movement reach it's peak.
- Watching people laugh (or cry) while getting roasted with Grilling.ai.
- Proving that tech doesn’t always have to be serious and AI is not going to take your job.
What We Learned
- Humor in Code: Writing intentionally bad responses is an art form.
- AI Can Roast Back: Don’t ask the AI to grill unless you’re ready for it to come for your life choices.
- Building for Fun Is Worth It: Not everything has to be groundbreaking; sometimes, being hilarious is enough.
What’s Next for Grilling.ai
- More features, we want to have a full catalog for brainrot apps you can spend hours and learn nothing from.
- User roasting the AI and getting roasted back.
- A mode that you can send the AI to a friend and grill his social media -- basically a social media AI bully.
