Inspiration
We are aware of how much waste does the baby care industry produce. Even if the parents decided to go for a greener option, the baby grows so quickly at these early stages of life that the items become unused way before they become unusable. That's the reason why we decided to tackle this issue by creating a rental online platform where parents can acquire these items.
What it does
Rantie is an online marketplace designed to make your parenthood experience easier and more enjoyable. We bring back Baby Care Products that would otherwise end up in the landfill, into clean, safe, and pre-loved baby clothes and more. Customers have the option to choose an individual box or to subscribe to our service, the latest being the core of our business. Then they will receive a bundle with some of the essential items for baby care in a set of times.
How we built it
We have decided to create a website to run this business. We have created a whole business model that ensures a circular use of products and that extends the life of them as much as possible. It was very important for us to keep track of all the bundles at every moment, so we have created a QR code using Python that contains the information of each client.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge we faced was to find an original idea that could potentially solve a need of society and that it simultaneously untwinkles both coding and a circular approach. Add a subscription option to our website since it involves not only having to merely rent a product but also having our products sent on a regular basis according to the child's development stages. We also had some problems developing the QR code as it was difficult to extract just the information we wanted for each client.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have worked very well as a team and complemented our technical, business, and marketing skills effectively. We are also proud of the research and infographics we have made to illustrate some of the core ideas of our business and of the circular economy. Overall, we are very proud of the result we have arrived at to and we believe in its potential to become a future startup.
What we learned
We have learned a lot about web development and coding. We also have deepened our understanding of the circular economy and understood some of the challenges new businesses or facing right now to adapt to this new model.
What's next for Rantie
We will like to take Rantie one step further in regards to technology. We were thinking of implementing blockchain and IoT to increase the efficiency of our business. It will also be beneficial to use cloud computing instead of storing the data in a computer to minimize the cost.
