Inspiration

Everyone talks about "LinkedIn grind" but no one actually knows how strong their profile is compared to others. We wanted to make career development competitive and measurable like a leaderboard for your professional life. The word aura came naturally: it's the vibe your profile gives off before a recruiter even reads a word.

What it does

RankedIn scrapes your LinkedIn profile and runs it through a custom scoring engine to produce an Aura score from 0 to 2,500. The score breaks down across 8 dimensions: headline, experience, education, skills, about section, projects, profile completeness, and a recruiter signal bonus. Every point is explainable. Your score lands on a public leaderboard so you can see exactly where you rank against other users.

How we built it

Next.js 15 (App Router, server components) + TypeScript + Tailwind CSS v4 Framer Motion for animations Supabase (Postgres + Auth) for storing scores and user accounts RapidAPI LinkedIn scraping with a 3-layer fallback chain for maximum data quality A fully custom text-mining scoring engine no AI APIs, no black box. Pure deterministic rules: same inputs always produce the same score.

Challenges we ran into

LinkedIn actively blocks scrapers, so getting rich profile data was the hardest part. We built a 3-tier fallback system (fresh scraper → enricher API → raw HTML parsing) to maximize the quality and depth of what we extract. We also had to calibrate the scoring formula carefully so that a first-year student and a Staff engineer at Google both get scores that feel fair and differentiated.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A scoring engine that produces meaningful, explainable results without a single AI API call Clean, fast UI that feels polished for a hackathon build Live leaderboard that updates in real time as users submit scans Getting quality LinkedIn data reliably enough to actually demo

What we learned

Quality of data matters more than quantity. Our mentor pushed us to go deep on what each profile section actually says rather than just counting fields and that advice completely changed how we built the scraping and scoring layers.
