Inspiration

Connect researchers, rangers, and the community with each other to protect wildlife through the usage of technology.

What it does

Monitors specific animal corridors for human encroachment. Animal tracking data gathered by researchers using a variety of methods, looking at a variety of species.

How we built it

We built the front end on JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. The backend is built with both Node and Python.

Challenges we ran into

Finding relevant data and working with multiple languages on the backend.

Accomplishments that we are proud of

Utilizing Google Maps to place markers where there is human encroachment in an animal corridor.

What we learned

We learned how to use an API to generate markers on Google Maps for specific latitude and longitude coordinates based on a search.

What's next for Ranger Radar

Classify iNaturalist posts of dead animals and investigate. Event modeling, anomaly detection, etc. Cluster corridors to learn more about animal movements. Utilizing Raspberry Pi's to accumulate more data on animal patterns and human encroachment of animal corridors.
