Inspiration
Problem statement from Geneva trading
What it does
Virtual marketplace allows kids to trade their candy in return for a specific candy. Kids would be able to post their candy and what would they like in return for it. It would also allow other kids to post their offers and use the DM option once the trade has been accepted to agree upon a date/location and time to meet.
How we built it
-Used ASP.NET to create different webpages for the marketplace as follows: 1) Home page, 2) Profile pages, 3)Trade page
-Used SQL to communicate front-end with the database. The database holds the data for all the information uploaded to the website, like login info, post info, trade info, and offer info.
-SQL was also used to update data for real-time updates
Challenges we ran into
We bounced off multiple ideas and options to create this marketplace. What language would we use to create the website was one of the most challenging tasks. Other than that it was the first time the team to use SQL and Auth0.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The website we visualized during our creative process was way prettier than we were able to accomplish, but the time provided and considering it was the first hackathon for all of us, we are proud of the working model we were able to achieve. -Working website with graphics and clickable buttons -Auth0 was set up to create a user login -SQL was used to create a local database
What we learned
While we faced a lot of challenges, all of them provided us with experience with using various languages. -We built a backend using node js, but weren't able to completely build the front end using it -Interfacing auth0 with our ASP.NET website was very interesting to see (were not able to complete it)
What's next for Trade & Treat project
-Creating the marketplace using reactjs and nodejs for mode dynamic user experience -Using azure and auth0 to implement cloud database and user login
