Inspiration
We want to give everyone the opportunity to celebrate all of the key workers helping the world fight COVID-19 by connecting them in this time of crisis and giving something back.
Through creating the Random Acts of Kindness mobile application, you will be able to do just this and play your part in helping the world get through this tough time, together.
What it does
Through a simple and intuitive interface, you will be able to select a key working group you want to send a message to. Once you have composed your message it will be sent to a random person within that key worker group.
Once the message has been sent and opened you will be able to see who your message went to, where they work and even gift them.
How we built it
We designed a full functional native application for iOS/Android using Flutter/Dart and Firebase as a backend framework. Our technical choice will allow to scale up and guarantee performance once we reach a production phase.
Challenges we ran into
Designing for scaling up a future production phase, we need to consider aspects like cache and asynchronous functionality.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made a working demo, including the backend, in just a few days!
What we learned
Using the under pressure timing of the hackathon, we improved our UI Design skills in Flutter. Also, it's always inspiring to think about new ways to make users interact especially in a time of need.
What's next for Random Acts of Kindness
We currently have the framework of the backend developed product which still needs further refinement. We will also need to integrate the frontend design and UI. To move forward we are hoping to find a project sponsor to support with the further development of this application.
