Inspiration

I started out in product management in 2022 and was literally thrown into the chaos of 'producting', on my first official day on the job, i was pulled into a meeting with faces I didn't know and boom 'Florence, this will be your product to manage'. This is me a new employee, on day one as an intern!!! There was no proper onboarding process (the chaos that is startup in NG), just a walkthrough of the product by the then lead and I spent a large part of my first few months trying to make sense of who to meet or where we are. Fast forward to 3 years later as a PM who now builds in public, I have had numerous messages from entry to mid-level PMs about what to do or at least how to get started on their first 30-60-90 days and win fast and oh, I co-authored a book and my chapter was about getting your your first PM job and your first 90 days as a PM link

Im my current role, I have taken it up to build a seamless onboarding process for new hires even outside of my core team. I worked on a Company Wiki that speaks to what we do, our product line, user manuals, assets, etc. for the internal team and this is now part of the people team's onboarding package. A proud win this year for me so why not take what I have learnt to help people on a larger scale?

What it does

Ramp is your AI-powered onboarding companion for product managers. It helps you start strong and win early by giving you:

PM Onboarding Checklist Select your PM type (Core, Growth, or Technical) and get a tailored checklist for your first 3 weeks on the job. It’s dynamic, practical, and adjusts based on your selection.

Ask a PM A conversational AI buddy trained to answer real, messy PM questions like: “What’s the first thing to do when you inherit a product with no docs?” “How do I manage up when I don’t even know the org chart?”

Templates Access ready-to-use, battle-tested templates for kickoff docs, PRDs, user stories, onboarding briefs, and more, to get you to value faster.

How we built it

  • Ramp was designed as a web app, built to run entirely in-browser and deployable on Netlify. Refinements were majorly done to prompt draft before providing final prompt for implementation.

  • Frontend: Pure HTML with Tailwind CSS utility classes and Alpine.js for interactivity, optimized for mobile-first and minimal load time.

  • Placeholder functions simulate GPT output for demo; future versions will securely call OpenAI's GPT-4o API via a Netlify Function proxy.

  • Templates: Stored as JSON and rendered on demand, making it easy to expand the library without code changes.

  • User Flow: No login required. LocalStorage handles session state, PM type selection, and template favorites.

Challenges we ran into

  • Getting GPT to consistently output checklists scoped to exactly 3 weeks took multiple iterations.

  • I had to structure content delivery carefully, new PMs are already overwhelmed.

  • Aggregating feedback from user interview.

  • Nigeria Network issues

    Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Launched a working MVP in 36 hours

  • Built a product I wish I had when I started

  • Shared it publicly and received great feedback from potential users & early testers link

Wrote a prompt that output the entire functional product on the first Bolt run, rare!

What we learned

  • Definitely not that one can have a finished product on first prompt, I was stunned. It just goes to show that even with AI, it still needs a well thought out human framing and probing

  • Onboarding is a product, not a checklist. It is still a major issue in this part of the world especially in startup. It has been a constant conversation in a PM community I belong to lately.

  • Just seeing early testers feel seen, supported, and less alone in their onboarding journey reminded me why I built this.

What's next for Ramp - Smart Onboarding Product Manager Tool

  • Launch MVP and acquire first 1k users (set up analytics)
  • Add real-time GPT-4o or Gemini support
  • Expand onboarding lists by PM level (junior, mid, senior) and company type (startup vs. enterprise)
  • Launch “Mentor Mode” with feedback loops
  • Login and save progress feature
