Inspiration
We were interested in developing full-stack applications and found the prompt very interesting. We believed that it could be solved effectively in an intuitive way and wanted to illustrate that in our attempt at the problem.
What it does
The application shows a prototype of an application that can allow multiple types of users that can do one of the following: specify times off for current high-level employees - specify personal times off for a worker's current schedule - attempt to reserve a position on a queue waiting for a spot.
How we built it
The application was built on a NodeJS back end. Most of the application was written from scratch in HTML/CSS/JS/JQuery/Bootstrap. Attempts were made to integrate the application with a database.
Challenges we ran into
We encountered several issues with NodeJS and MongoDB that we were not able to resolve or that would have taken too long to implemented, which limited our ability of finishing the product. We also had some ambiguity in our thought process which was compromised but did cause a bit of stagnation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We stuck together with the ideas and did end up creating a pretty good proof-of-concept. The idea should be implementable and efficient given enough time and resources, and can be used as valid inspiration for a train of thought.
What we learned
Node: A lot of Node. We all learned a good deal about implementing a back-end component despite ultimately struggling with it. We also found out about the idea of limiting scope in the interest of providing a more finished proof of concept. Some of the members also learned some more about front-end development and good design patterns.
What's next for RamHacks2019 Federal Reserve Parking Reservation
Integrating a database system and object model for the back end, and some revisions on the user interface i.e. in-window back buttons. Some addition of images will also be expected.
