Inspiration
We were inspired to build RaktBandhan after learning about the everyday struggles of Thalassemia patients in India. These patients often need regular blood transfusions to survive. However, finding matching blood donors in time can be very difficult. Many donors are willing to help but are not regularly reminded or effectively engaged. This mismatch between patient needs and donor availability made us think deeply. We wanted to use simple but powerful technology to solve this problem and build a reliable system that creates a strong connection between patients, donors, and medical support .
What it does
RaktBandhan is a smart AI-powered platform that helps Thalassemia patients find suitable blood donors easily and quickly. It uses machine learning to predict when a donor will likely be available again, based on their past donation patterns. It also sends reminders to past donors and keeps a record of their contributions. This encourages donors to come back and donate again. On top of this, RaktBandhan includes a Generative AI chatbot that can help patients and families learn about Thalassemia care in easy and local language. It explains symptoms, treatment options, and self-care in a way that is understandable and friendly, even for those who are not tech-savvy.
How we built it
We are building this project using Python and Streamlit for the web interface, along with simple ML models to make predictions. Generative AI is used to power the chatbot and educational parts of the app. We are focusing on making the design lightweight, mobile-friendly, and easy to access from low-end devices. The system is also built in a modular way so that it can be easily connected in the future with national platforms like e-RaktKosh or NGO initiatives like Blood Bridge. Our main goal is to make the system usable by patients, donors, and healthcare workers alike without requiring any special training.
