#Inspiration
Thalassemia is a life-threatening genetic disorder that requires regular blood transfusions. In India, thousands of children suffer due to delayed access to matching blood donors. Despite blood bank networks, the problem remains—lack of awareness, delayed communication, and poor infrastructure. We were deeply moved by the struggles of young patients and inspired by a single question: “What if technology could ensure no Thalassemia warrior ever waits for blood again?”
What it does
RaktaBandhan is an AI-powered ecosystem that:
Predicts blood demand using ML models.
Connects real-time verified donors, hospitals, and blood banks.
Engages NCC/NSS units & NGOs to form a volunteer force.
Uses emotional AI to build lasting donor-recipient bonds.
Sends emergency alerts & enables quick, hyper-local response.
Provides gamified incentives and badges to retain youth donors.
How we built it
Python, TensorFlow: Forecasting blood demand
Firebase, Node.js: Real-time data and notification system
Geo APIs & Google Maps: Locate donors/hospitals
NLP Chatbot: Assist patients & volunteers
UI/UX: Mobile-first design for accessibility and youth engagement
Secure DB: To maintain donor and patient data privately
Challenges we ran into
Building real-time, secure donor-patient matching
Ensuring data privacy across multiple institutions
Motivating and verifying community volunteers
Creating an emotional yet professional user experience
