Inspiration
We saw how chaotic and outdated the blood donation system is in India — last-minute SOS calls, people relying on WhatsApp groups, and zero transparency in stock or supply. That’s when it hit us: Why not use AI to fix this? If we can predict food delivery routes or movie recommendations, we can definitely do better with saving lives.
What it does
RAKT.AI is your smart blood donation buddy. It predicts blood shortages, helps donors find the best time and place to donate, and even lets hospitals track inventory — all in one sleek app. It also gamifies the experience so people feel rewarded for donating, and busts common donation myths with a multilingual chatbot. Bonus: It’s drone-ready for remote blood delivery.
How we built it
We built the front using React + Next.js + Tailwind CSS, hooked it up to Firebase and Supabase for storage and auth, and trained basic ML models (LSTM) in Python to forecast blood demand based on dummy hospital and seasonal data. We used OpenAI APIs for the chatbot and designed everything mobile-first for accessibility. The dashboard was inspired by models from Australia, Kenya, Canada, and China.
Challenges we ran into
Getting reliable datasets for blood demand was tough
Localizing the chatbot to support multiple Indian languages wasn't easy
Making the UI feel fun (not scary like a hospital) took multiple redesigns
Designing drone logistics logic in a way that’s actually scalable
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a working AI-powered predictor dashboard from scratch
Designed the full donor and NGO experience in one unified app
Brought together global best practices (and made them India-ready)
Created a smooth donor journey with real-time feedback and rewards
What we learned
AI can actually save lives when used with local context
Gamification seriously improves user motivation
People are more open to donating when you educate them in their language
Good design makes even “boring” systems like blood banks feel empowering
