Inspiration
Thalassemia patients in India often struggle to find timely and compatible blood donors. The situation is worse in rural areas with limited medical support. We created RakhtSetu to simplify this process and ensure no patient is left waiting for critical care.
What it does
RakhtSetu is an AI-powered platform that connects patients with the right blood donors and offers complete support for managing their health. Key features include:
- Smart donor matching
- Health dashboards and reminders
- Multilingual chatbot for guidance
- Telemedicine support
- Financial aid and crowdfunding tools
- Community forums
- Dashboards for hospitals and NGOs, integrated with e-RaktKosh
How we built it
We used a secure, cloud-based tech stack:
- Frontend: React.js, Tailwind CSS
- Backend: Node.js/Python (AWS EC2)
- Database: Firestore
- Authentication & Alerts: Firebase Auth + FCM
- AI Models: Python (Scikit-learn, TensorFlow)
- APIs: AWS Gateway, e-RaktKosh
- Storage: AWS S3
Challenges we ran into:
- Ensuring data privacy and trust
- Building for users with low digital literacy
- Integrating with government systems
- Accessing clean medical datasets
Accomplishments we're proud of:
- Functional AI-based donor matching in 2 weeks
- Regional language chatbot support
- Seamless real-time experience
- Aligned with real-world healthcare platforms
What we learned:
- Designing accessible healthcare tools matters
- Building trust through simplicity is key
- AI can truly make healthcare more proactive
What’s next for RakhtSetu:
- Expand language support across India
- Improve AI predictions for patient needs
- Collaborate with hospitals and NGOs
- Launch mobile donation tracking
- Add genetic screening and mental health support
