Inspiration
In Rajasthan, thousands of children drop out of school every year. Reasons range from poverty, child marriage, gender discrimination, and lack of awareness to limited access to higher education. Families often see little value in continuing education, especially for girls, as early marriage or earning wages feels more urgent. This not only limits children’s futures but also keeps entire communities trapped in the cycle of poverty.
What it does
- Smart School Attendance & Alerts – Tracks irregular attendance and sends alerts to parents and authorities.
- Scholarship Finder – Provides students with easy access to government/private scholarships so money isn’t a barrier.
- Complaint & Helpline System – Any child or villager can anonymously report child marriage or dropout cases. Reports go directly to child welfare authorities/NGOs.
- Gamified Learning – Fun quizzes, badges, and story-based lessons keep children motivated to continue learning.
- Community Awareness Hub – Shares local-language videos and stories on the importance of education, targeting parents as well.
- Data Dashboard for NGOs & Govt. – Shows real-time dropout hotspots so action can be taken quickly.
How we built it
- Frontend: React (for fast and simple UI)
- Backend: Python + Flask / Node.js (for APIs and complaint handling)
- Database: Firebase Firestore / SQLite (lightweight and scalable for rural deployment)
- AI Module (optional): Predicts “at-risk students” based on attendance and social data
- Hosting: Replit / Vercel for prototype demo
- Other Tools: Google Translate API for multi-language support (Hindi, Rajasthani, English
Challenges we ran into
- Designing a solution that covers both genders equally.
- Balancing cultural sensitivity with practicality (e.g., complaints against child marriage must be discreet).
- Limited datasets on dropout prediction, so we had to simulate some test data.
- Making the app lightweight so it can work on low-end devices and offline-first areas.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Building a holistic solution that combines tech + social awareness.
- Including a complaint option for child marriage (usually ignored in dropout apps).
- Making an early-stage demo that NGOs and schools can actually test.
- Designing it in a way that even children can use with minimal guidance.
What we learned
- Education problems can’t be solved with tech alone—community awareness is key.
- Importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration (students, parents, teachers, NGOs, govt).
- How to design a social-impact product that is both scalable and sensitive
What's next for Rajasthan Dropout Solution
- Partner with NGOs in Rajasthan to pilot test the app.
- Build an offline mode with SMS-based complaint system.
- Add more local dialects for wider accessibility.
- Scale it as a national model for dropout prevention.
