Operation: Stop the STEAL

Inspiration

We were inspired after reading about the soy and cattle industry's impact on the Amazon rainforest due to the practice of monoculture in the region.

What it does

Our policy proposal is intended to decrease annual deforestation, generate funds for NGOs, and redirect the purchase of soy from the Amazon to the US.

Challenges we ran into

Our team had some struggles determining what parts of our solution were feasible and useful in the context of our problem statement within the time constraint.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The collaboration between our team that has led to our creative ideas is the accomplishment that we are most proud of. The fact that we were all able to work on this remotely with our own responsibilities going on this weekend was impressive.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the soy and cattle industry, different technological practices used to combat deforestation, US and Brazilian policies, and monoculture vs polyculture economics.
