Young people particularly the Gen Z demographic use vatious social media tools to air out their views and engage in advocacy. Social media tools especially X, whatsapp and Tiktok rank highly as the commonly used advocacy tools of engagement. The recent Gen Z demonstration in Kenya proved this as there was no central base of command and all mobilisation was conducted online. The challenge however is the tools by design are not created for advocacy but rather social sharing. This makes it dofficult to capture feedback and action it by the relevant leaders. This thus creates a need to create a platform that offers the youth a platform to engage and measure the impact of their engagement with their leaders and decision making process
Raia is decision making tool that empowers citizens to meaningfully engage with their leaders and contribute in the decision making process. Leveraging the power of AI in NLP and LLM, the platform is able to synthesize large amounts of data and draw meaningful insights from citizen engagement and summarize it to leaders in form of reports and analysis. The front end is built on MERN stack. AI model based on Llama. The main challenge is the duration in which we had to onboard real users to the system to do a test run and get the required data to test the various AI models ..We built it through Scrum rapid prototyping methodology where we first identified user requirements and fleshed out the system design.
We are proud of the system design and first iteration as well as feedback from beta testers. We have learned various challenges young people face while using digital advocacy tools and the core features that would aid them in their work. The next phase would be to refine the AI model and get users on board.
