Inspiration
My inspiration for creating Radisave was not only due to my keen interest in space exploration, but also because I wanted to help protect those who risk their lives to help advance our society.
What I learned
From this project I learned how to overcome problems, and learned that the answer to complex problems can often be a simple, yet effective solution.
What it does
Radisave is a suit which helps prevent radiation side effects to its users. For astronauts, Radisave suits will allow them to freely roam around the International space and not have to worry about the dangerous side effects of exposed radiation.
How I built it
I began by settling on a simple design, similar to that of a hazmat suit, but with polyethylene and solar filter glass attached to protect the user's eyes and an inner suit layer made of polyester and nylon for comfort and tight fit. Next, I worked on choosing the right material to limit the effects of radiation and ended up choosing polyethylene.
Challenges I ran into
The major challenge during this project was finding the right material, as there were so many viable options, I had to determine which was effective at blocking radiation, cost effective, and lightweight, so the user would feel comfortable in the suit. I was able to overcome this challenge by crating an effective method to narrow down options.
An accomplishment that I'm proud of
One accomplish that I am proud of is being able to keep the suit, lightweight, and cost effective, as there were many option which would have either been too expensive or too heavy. A lightweight and cheap suit woulda allow cargo rockets to not use up precious cargo load and other resources.
