Inspiration

We are all very passionate about community outreach surrounding our local K-12 community here in Rochester. We also believe it's vital to teach the upcoming generation how to be safe in our new internet age.

What it does

The idea for our application was to have three different elements. Our project would address parents and educators, letting them see the learning objectives within the comics. For parents, it was important to share the knowledge of what their children would be facing on the internet. For students, the idea was to have an interactive comic book/select your own adventure style story to address the importance of privacy and safety.

How we built it

We took this hackathon as the opportunity to allow our team to build on our limited knowledge of react. Our goal was to create a react application and integrate it with GitHub Pages, but for anyone who has seen the memes channel in discord, you know this was not something easily achieved.

Challenges we ran into

GITHUB PAGES Also, we were running with limited knowledge on how react works and within the limited time frame we were unable to achieve the applications fullest potential.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are most proud of the path this application has provided us to helping educate younger students on how to be safe and secure on the internet.

What we learned

So much about the technologies, and how to make an interactive concept that is easy for students to follow.

What's next for Raccoon Rex's Library of Internet Safety

Full functionality and built curriculum. Our original plan was to have six different comics for students to follow.
